The Vichy Collection: Checks Take Centre Stage in the Children’s Bedroom

The classic check is back in the spotlight. With its retro appeal and graphic character, gingham brings a fresh feel to children’s bedrooms. Neither too prim nor too traditional, it works beautifully across textiles, lighting, cushions and rugs, used as subtle accents or embraced throughout the room.

The idea? A bedroom that feels like a true living space, where patterns, textures and colours work together without ever feeling overdone.

Then there’s the Vichy Cottage Walnut collection. An understated print in natural, almost wood-inspired tones, bringing a softer, more contemporary feel to the overall look.

It All Starts with the Details

There is no need to completely redesign the bedroom to introduce gingham. A lampshade, bed canopy or garland can be enough to change the atmosphere.

The Vichy muslin ball lampshades come in cream, pink, pale yellow, sky blue and green (€70). Above the bed, the double-sided checked muslin bed canopy, available in Vichy Yellow or Mint, adds just the right amount of softness (€110).

To finish the look, the knotted garland, in Vichy Pink or Yellow, brings a graphic touch to the room (€42).

A Little Corner Just for Them

Gingham also works beautifully in play spaces. The checked muslin teepees with play mats, available in Honey and Mint (€180), create a miniature hideaway for reading, playing or simply having a little space to themselves.

When warmer days arrive, the double-sided Vichy Yellow muslin picnic mat (€105) can move beyond the bedroom and be enjoyed in the garden or on the grass.

On the floor, the Vichy Caramel rug (€75) adds warmth to the room, while the Cottage Walnut rug (€80) brings a more natural palette.

Gingham, in Cushion Form

Probably the easiest way to introduce the pattern into a bedroom. The 40 × 40 cm cushion covers, new additions to the collection, come in Mocha, Yellow, Blue, Chocolate and Pink (€35).

Mix them with the Vichy Caramel fringed cushion (€45) or the Cerise checked cushions, available in Pink, Grey or Raspberry (€42). To soften the look, the Cottage Walnut round cushion (€50) adds a more natural touch.

The Bed Gets in on the Check

On the bed, gingham takes on another character. The Cerise checked bedding sets 140 × 200 cm, available in Raspberry, Grey and Pink (€95), instantly add depth and character to a bedroom.

For smaller beds, the Petits Carreaux Beige 120 × 170 cm cotton bedding set (€85) offers a softer take on the pattern.

And for house beds, the bed canopies can completely transform their look without changing the bed itself: Brown Checks for the DK model (€95), Petits Carreaux Beige for the DK model (€95) or for the L model (€135).

The Little Accessories That Make All the Difference

The pattern also finds its way into storage. The Vichy Caramel storage pockets (€45), Brown Checks and Petits Carreaux Beige pockets (€35), as well as the maxi storage baskets in Vichy Caramel and Cottage Walnut (€65), bring the print into everyday storage.

Practical objects that become decorative pieces in their own right.

The Cottage Walnut Touch

For a more understated take on the pattern, Cottage Walnut brings natural tones to the forefront. The collection features a cotton lampshade (€65), cotton bed canopy (€130), knotted garland (€45), storage pocket (€45) and sleeping bag with pillow (€135).

A way to bring checks into the bedroom with a more natural, muted palette and a slightly more fashion-led feel.

How to Style Gingham

Gingham works beautifully with different patterns and textures, but there is no need to overdo it. Repeating the same shade across a lampshade, garland and a few cushions is enough to create a cohesive thread throughout the room. For a more playful bedroom, two similar shades can also be mixed, playing with contrasts and textures.

And if the aim is simply to add a subtle checked touch, a few cushions or a beautiful textile piece can be enough to refresh the overall feel.
